What This Is And What It Is Not#

Nowadays, it feels like websites are very sneaky about what they want from you and what they are. They often try to sell you something or get you to sign up for their newsletter or something like that. I don’t want to do that. I want to be upfront about what this is and what it is not, so I wrote up this post both for you to get an idea of what I want to build here and myself to clear what I want.

How I Will Use This#

I will keep pages as living documents#

This is something that I want to try. I think the idea of having a post be this one and done thing without the ability to change it later is not for me. I want to have pages grow as I grow. I still need to invest some time into making sure that this blog facilitates my vision.

I will write about my experiences of various kinds#

Currently there is a bit of a focus on technology, but I also want to write about other things.

I write for myself as a hobby#

Basically, I write about stuff that interests me, that I want to or have learned about or that just bugs me. It is a sort of way to process my thoughts and ideas. I don’t expect anyone to read this, but if you do, I hope you find it interesting or useful. And if you do, I would love to hear from you (see me next point).

I want to foster a community of like-minded people#

I often feel like I can’t be the only person that thinks like I think and has similar values, but finding such people has proved quite difficult. Maybe if I become sort of a beacon and just project my ideals and values out into the world, I’ll have an easier time meeting and connecting with such people. How I Will Not Use This#

I have absolutely no expectation of making money from this#

I don’t even want to make money from this. I don’t want to be a brand or a business. I just want to write and share my thoughts and ideas with the world. I don’t want to be a “content creator” or an “influencer”.

This means:

I won’t put ads on this site
I won’t do sponsored posts
I won’t sell you stuff
I won’t use referral links

I won’t collect & sell your data#

I don’t want to know who you are or what you do if you don’t want to reach out and tell me yourself. I’m running my own instance of Umami on the same server this blog runs on to just get a sense of if I’m yelling into the void or not, but that’s it. I’m not using any cookies, tracking pixels or anything else that a good ad blocker would block and if you don’t agree with using Umami, you can just block it with your ad blocker. I don’t care.
